City Council Approves Downtown Lighting Master Plan

City Council unanimously approved an Ordinance approving a professional services agreement with Alderson & Associates, Inc., MEP Engineers,  to perform a lighting study and develop a Downtown Lighting Master Plan. District 1 Councilman Roberto C. Treviño, who called for such a plan in 2016, provided the following statement:

“Lighting plays a vital role with regard to public safety, accessibility, place-making and our quality of life. It is with much excitement that I announce the approval of a contract with Alderson & Associates to develop San Antonio’s first Downtown Lighting Master Plan. Next, Alderson and Associates will work with the King William and Lavaca neighborhoods as well as Downtown stakeholders to

develop a plan that will serve as a guide for better illuminating corridors and neighborhoods across the city. Today’s vote is only the first step to creating a lighting plan for the entire city and the next step in creating a City by Design.”

Alderson & Associates, Inc. developed a team to manage this project in conjunction with the City and all of the Stakeholders of the Downtown Lighting Master Plan. The team is comprised of expert companies in their field, consisting of Alderson & Associates, Inc. as the managing team leader and the electrical engineer, Randy Burkett Lighting Design as the lighting consultant who is developing standards of the master plan, CFZ Landscape Design who coordinates hardscapes and deals with historical issues, and finally Ximenes & Associates, Inc. who facilitates stakeholder meetings and input and develops methods of distributing information on the project.
