Texas State Aquarium

Alderson & Associates, Inc. provided mechanical and electrical engineering design services and commissioning services for the Central Utility Plant for the Caribbean Journey expansion. The71,000 square foot addition more than doubled the size of the aquarium which features coral reefs, coastal lagoons, and seas. The new exhibit houses flamingos, crocodiles, stingrays, and coral reef fish, and other species in a jungle level. The expansion also includes a 400,000 gallon HEB Caribbean Sea Shark Exhibit, 100 seat 4D theater, a dining room for weddings and corporate gatherings, and a banquet hall. Commissioning: Both Central Utility Plants (CUP), HVAC and associated Building Automation Systems (BAS) have undergone commissioning. The CUP serving the Aquarium side of the facility consists of two chiller, two cooling towers and 4 pumps arranged in a primary secondary configuration. The CUP serving the Caribbean side the facility consists of two chillers, two cooling tower and 4 pumps arranged in a variable primary configuration. To facilitate operation by facility Building Engineers, a detailed Graphic User Interface (GUI) has been installed to provide detailed building information. All BAS systems were provided by Johnson Controls, Inc.
