Walzem Family YMCA
YMCA of Greater San Antonio

Services for the Walzem YMCA consisted of the design of a new fitness center that consisted of Administrative offices, a gymnasium, indoor swimming pool, children’s play area, lockers, exercise room, weights and cardio room. The original facility was a grocery store that was partially renovated to house the Walzem YMCA. The project is LEED Silver certified. Commissioning Plan included the mechanical, electrical and plumbing systems. Alderson’s comprehensive commissioning service verified each system was operating properly. Deficiencies were noted as part of the process requiring the associated contractors and equipment manufacturers to return to the project and make corrections. The end result is a complete and functional system delivered to the YMCA at occupancy of the building and not at the end of the warranty period. Mechanical Design included an HVAC controls system, swimming pool piping and equipment design, domestic hot and cold water, sanitary waste and vent systems, and fire sprinkler system revisions. Electrical Design consisted of building interior lighting systems, general purpose power, fire alarm system, telephone and sound systems, data conduit systems, and site electrical power.
