History

Since 1985, Alderson & Associates has built a reliable reputation with architects, contractors, facility managers, owners, and public entities as an MEP consulting firm with proven expertise in design, project management, construction administration, and commissioning of industrial, healthcare, K-12, higher education, municipal, commercial and governmental facilities. The company was founded in 1985 by Carlton Alderson with a commitment to providing quality design services to commercial, institutional and governmental agencies. In 1995, Principal Dean T. Alderson moved into the role of President to lead the firm forward in the time-honored tradition of his father and pass on his 32 years of well-rounded mechanical, plumbing and electrical engineering experience to clients statewide.

Alderson's corporate office is located in San Antonio, Texas and a second office is located in Fredericksburg, Texas. Our staff of over 20 professionals includes 9 Professional Engineers, as well as Commissioning Agents, Graduate Engineers, CADD design technicians, and administrative support personnel. We are certified as a Small Business Enterprise (SBE) by the South Texas Regional Certification Agency and a Texas certified Engineering Firm, Registration no. F-1008 by the Texas Board of Professional Engineers.

Key Personnel

The foundation behind Alderson's longevity and reputation as a leading MEP design firm lies in its qualified technical staff and administrative support personnel. Seven of our nine engineers on staff have over 25 years of professional experience. Our engineers are LEED accredited professionals who have worked on LEED Gold and Silver certified projects. Alderson & Associates has performed commissioning services for over 20 years on educational, governmental and healthcare projects. Our certified commissioning team members have over 15 years of experience in building systems commissioning.

	Dean T. Alderson, PE, CxA, CPMP Principal / President B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Texas A & M University, College Station, TX, 1979 Professional Engineer, Texas, 1983 Commissioning Authority (CxA) ASHRAE Commissioning Process Management Professional, 2010	Dean Alderson is Principal in Charge / President and Owner of Alderson & Associates, Inc. He has led the firm as President since 1995 and has over thirty years of design and project management experience specializing in Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing design for public and private sector projects. He has led numerous projects involving renovation and new construction of municipal, educational, industrial, commercial, retail, mission critical and governmental facilities. He has performed commissioning services on institutional, military and industrial facilities for over 15 years.

	Linda Alderson Principal/Owner	As Principal and Majority Owner, Linda Alderson is responsible for the Business Operations of Alderson & Associates. These duties include management of Finances and Accounting, Human Resources and Personnel Management, as well as the daily business operations of the firm. She along with Dean Alderson, Principal and Co-owner is responsible for Business Development, Marketing and Public Relations.

	Steven E. Huck, PE Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Manager B.S., Mechanical Engineering, University of Missouri, 1974 M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Colorado State University, 1976 Professional Engineer, Texas, 1980	Steven E. Huck has served as Senior Mechanical Engineer at Alderson since 2006. He has over thirty-six years of experience in Mechanical design for Governmental, Commercial, Industrial, and Educational projects. His specialties include heating, ventilating and air conditioning systems, as well as steam and water distribution systems. Mr. Huck has performed mechanical design on various types of facilities including office facilities, central plants, university buildings, medical, military, and industrial facilities. Before coming to Alderson, Mr. Huck performed Mechanical Engineering and Plumbing design services for 17 years with Marmon Mok Architecture.

	Lon Culbertson, PE Senior Electrical Engineer Project Manager B.S. Electrical Engineering Iowa State University, 1986 Professional Engineer, Texas, 2010 Professional Engineer, North Carolina, 1991	Lon Culbertson serves as Senior Electrical Engineer at Alderson & Associates. He has twenty-six years of experience in Electrical Engineering installation, design and project management for university, industrial and commercial projects. Mr. Culbertson has design experience on LEED Silver certified projects. His work experience includes power system studies and calculations, harmonic analysis, as well as detailed design. He has been lead electrical engineer for several large industrial facility expansions that involved more than doubling the existing electrical load.

	Hector Carrisalez, PE Senior Mechanical Engineer Project Manager B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Trinity University, 1979 Professional Engineer, Texas, 1988	Hector Carrisalez has thirty-two years of experience in mechanical systems design. His design expertise extends to a variety of mechanical systems and in performing energy studies, cost estimating, site investigations, construction administration and commissioning. Past projects have included chiller plants up to 1800 tons refrigeration, boiler plants up to 1950 boiler horsepower, thermal storage systems, energy recovery systems, medical/ laboratory gas piping systems, fume exhaust systems, plumbing systems, hydronic piping systems, refrigeration systems, and steam systems.

	Todd Keener, PE, LEED AP Mechanical Engineer B.S., Mechanical Engineering Texas A & M University, College Station, TX, 1994, Magna Cum Laude Master of Mechanical Engineering Texas A & M University, 1996 Professional Engineer, Texas, 2001 LEED AP	Todd Keener has over thirteen years of professional experience as a Mechanical Engineer to include design experience on LEED Gold and Silver projects. He is experienced in Design-build delivery methods and BIM design software. His experience includes two years of specialization in industrial machine development and eleven years in the MEP consulting industry. His experience ranges from the development of custom packaging equipment to HVAC design and project management to include commercial, industrial, sports facilities, educational, public, residential, and hotel/casino facilities. He has performed due diligence studies, energy audits, and energy project design.

He has performed numerous facility condition assessments of buildings to make recommendations of upgrades and revisions of electrical power and distribution systems.

	Scott Wells, CxA, LEED AP BD+C Director of Commissioning and Building Systems B.S., Electrical Engineering, University of Florida , 1990 Commissioning Authority (CxA) LEED AP BD+C / Green Associate	Scott Wells has over 20 years experience in estimating, design, implementation, start-up and commissioning of HVAC control systems. Scott Wells' experience in the United States Air Force includes modification, trouble-shooting and repair for satellite and secure voice communications systems. Scott Wells' expertise and specialties include many years of experience working with systems from JCI, Honeywell, Siemens, Alerton and Tridium, and various communication transmission and radio devices. Scott is also experienced in building codes, life safety codes and construction means and methods.

	Phil Modesett Senior Electrical Designer Past Licensed Journeyman Electrician, City of San Antonio License No. EJ740 for 25 Years	Philip Modesett has served as Senior Electrical Designer and Construction Manager at Alderson & Associates for 11 years. He was previously employed for 27 years at the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. During that time, he was involved in the programming, cost estimation, design, and renovation of numerous offices, laboratories and animal spaces. Specialties include electrical design, laboratory tops and casework, security devices and hardware, and construction planning and estimating.

	Sandy Lenz Business Development and Marketing Manager B.A., Communication, Magna Cum Laude, University of Texas at San Antonio, 2002 A.A.S, Radio, TV & Film, San Antonio College, 1990	Sandy Lenz has 10 years of marketing experience including over 7 years of specialized experience in the A/E industry. She is active in all aspects of marketing and business development and in the creative design of marketing materials utilizing Adobe CS3 Suite software, and has designed several corporate web sites. Ms. Lenz has produced dozens of detailed proposals that have been awarded multi-million dollar contracts with public and private sector clients. She is active in various organizations and currently serves on the Membership Committee of SMPS.
